If you have a fair few applications, or even one or two you struggle to keep up-to-date, then AppFresh is for you. Currently still in development stage, this nifty program allows you to control all of your program software updates in one place.

AppFresh supports the Apple Software Update, Microsoft Update, Sparkle Updates as well as many more, so long as they are listed on iUseThis. Out of 131 applications of my mac at present, only 31 weren’t found on iUseThis.

This program also allows you to roll-back to an existing copy of the application if for some reason your update didn’t go as planned.

Don’t worry about keeping your applications up to date any longer - just open up AppFresh and you’re set! You can also set up your iUseThis profile to let others know what applications you use. It is compatible with Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5.

MySpace? Facebook? Twitter? No way. Net4Mac is a social networking application launched in April this year that allows Mac users to use a native environment to discuss all issues mac (and other things, too!).

Version 1.1 of this unique software can be downloaded at http://www.net4mac.com/english.html.

Coming soon, there is plans for this application and others similar to be created by the iPod Touch and iPhone (entitled “app4touch”).

In a recent ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) meeting, they approved a bunch of new top level domains to add to the famous .com, .net, .org and other variants.

The Corporation is allowing customers, as of 2009, to register a whole top-level domain after a thorough application process. That means, yes, Apple can register .mac.

On June 9, Apple made known that they were swapping from their old .Mac to MobileMe, yet this recent development means that they may have been able to finally give their users what they were after: a true .mac web address.

There is no doubt, however, that Apple will still apply for the .mac domain and use it for it’s own purposes such as promoting products.

It seems as though Apple really lost in this case - or are they likely to surprise us all?
Haveanotherapple.mac has a nice ring, doesn’t it?

On June 9 through to 13 numerous items were announced by Steve Jobs, including the iPhone 3G, iPhone Software 2.0, MobileMe, AppStore and more.

In just over two days we will see these items rolled out on the shelves to many waiting lines, some of which started last week.

I came across a timeline of the iPhone the other day, and it’s definitely worth a look to see where it’s come from. Head over to iPhone Gold to check it out.

I, personally am looking forward to iPhone 3G (as it is the first iPhone to be released in Australia) and MobileMe. Even for a beefed up .Mac, the new online software by Apple is sure to be a hit.

It is common knowledge to the “geek world” that when you delete a file, it is not actually removed as such from your hard drive, simply the link to the file is removed, and at a certain stage, it is over written with your new data.

On PC, there are numerous programs to ‘permanently delete files’. However, all this does is creates a random document and replaces your existing data with dummy text. There are programs for Mac also, however there is one built right on into Mac OS X.

Remember that after you permanently delete files, there is no chance of recovering them, even with programs that allow you to recover items you have deleted.

In Mac OS X, you can overwrite these files 7 times from the trash. Move the items you wish to permanently delete to the trash, open the trash, then select Finder - > Secure Empty Trash.

You will then be prompted with a warning, read this carefully, you can’t go back!

Then you will have a normal emptying trash screen. Be patient, securely emptying the trash can take a long time.

Even if Apple’s official “Where to buy an iPhone site” [Click here to view] only has Optus and Vodafone, Telstra has released today that they will also carry the iPhone.

Telstra’s site states that they will run the iPhone 3G on their native Next G™ Network, the only telecommunications company in Australia to offer this service.

More details are likely to be announced soon, such as plans. Optus and Vodafone are likely to follow suit with such announcements.

For those users using iCal and would like to upload it online, yet don’t have a .Mac (or now MobileMe) account, then this step-by-step tutorial should help you.

First, in cPanel 11 (not supported in 10 or below, as it requires WEBDAV support), select the feature entitled “Webdisk” found under the “Files” subheading.

For the purposes of this, I will use ‘ical’ as the username and ‘ical’ as the password. The rest is done for you. You may choose your own.

In iCal, select Calendar -> Publish.

Change “Publish To:” to “Private Server”. Enter the url as http://www.yourdomain.com:2077. As the username, enter what you entered in cPanel, ensuring you add your domain at the end. Hence ‘ical’ becomes ‘ical@haveanotherapple.com’. The password is as normal. You can choose in this menu if you want the calendar to update automatically.

Click publish, and you should achieve this message:

You can now go to the directory you set up in cPanel and see your calendar. In this case, it is www.haveanotherapple.com/ical for me.

When you first booted up your Mac, you would have been welcomed by a classy presentation with "Welcome" written in a bunch of foreign languages.  Unsure what these videos are? Watch the demos at the bottom of this article.  If you want to watch this video again, follow these steps for Tiger and Leopard.

Open up finder and Click Go->Go to folder. Type this in:

/System/Library/CoreServices/Setup Assistant/Contents/Resources/TransitionSection.bundle/Contents/Resources/

A folder should pop up, and two files should be inside:

intro.mov
intro-sound.mp3

As you can see, unfortunately they are two separate files. To fix this, simply put them both in iMovie and watch it that way. You may need to trim the audio track as it may go for longer than the video!
