prMac

A few days ago, Ray from prMac e-mailed me asking if I was interested in press releases. New to the whole concept, Ray guided me through the process, and eventually convinced me to register. prMac is a distribution source for developers to get their latest software pieces out there, with the aide of agencies. They offer three types of installation. The first is a plug-in for Drupal, Wordpress or Expression Engine. I tried this and it worked perfectly. New articles are delivered straight to your inbox and are ready to be posted.

However, I chose to go with the section option to split Have Another Apple into articles and press releases. This option is the ’standalone’ version. As wordpress has it’s own way of setting up and viewing content - it was not easy to adapt. However, Ray was constantly available through e-mail and guided me until we got it up and running. However, if you are planning on using the standalone version for a normal, non-blog site, then you will find the standalone version as simple as editing a line of code, uploading it, chmod to 777 and style it if you wish. The third option is framework, for those who have developed their own CMS and wish to incorporate prMac.

More after the jump…

Bugmenot
Hi Apple fans. While this is not Apple-related, it’s something that all user’s can use and enjoy.  Bugmenot is a program that allows you to “bypass compulsory registration”. Ever been to a site where you only want to read one article - yet you need to register to view the whole thing? Then Bugmenot is for you. Their site allows you to type in the URL and you are given a list of potential passwords. You can vote whether it worked or did not work for you.

They also offer a firefox addon, which allows you to simply right-click and click “login with Bugmenot”. This site is commonly deemed to be legal as it does not offer access to paid sites, simply free sites. It also offers a disposable e-mail service for those who have to register.
