Photobooth: Distorted Photos Won't RenderPhoto Booth, whilst having no ‘useful’ purpose, can be a fun tool for kids and adults alike. With version 2.0.1 the program gives the user the ability to use different backgrounds; such as fish, the Eiffel Tower or one of your own pictures. These pictures however sometimes look distorted or have your original background start to appear in the photo.

Here are the five most common reasons for this:

  1. Your background is too dark. Turn on a light or open the curtains, let the camera pick you up properly.

More common problems found after the jump…

  2. Something in the background is moving. This could be anywhere from a fishtank moving to wind blowing a piece of paper in the background.

  3. Your shadow is interrupting the view of the camera while it is rendering (asking you to "step out of the frame"). Check this out first - make sure your shadow isn’t on the area your photo will be taken.

  4. Moving in too early. The screen will say "step out of frame" and this message will be removed and replaced with the background of your choice. Give the program a few more seconds to set before moving in.

  5. Look at your clothing and then at the background. Are they the same colour, or close to? This will cause Photo Booth to think that you are actually the background. Change shirts or background for this to work!

Go through this checklist next time you take a photo - it will give you clearer photos.

If your photo looks distorted, it is good practice to set it back to normal before going back to your effect.

Enjoy, and please comment and digg.

  1. Photo-tips Dan Says:

Never heard of this Photo Booth ting… got to check it out sometime. Or is it for Mac-users only?

I sure like the looks of those Mac-computers but I have problems with the price tag. Also I guess the choice of software gets more limited than in the PC-world?
