On September 28th this year consumers from around the world waited to see what apple has to offer this time around. Apple has made themselves famous for their major releases, always managing to surprise their audience with the latest gadgets. Only a few years ago, when the iPod photo and mini were released, were these taken by storm with their advancement in simplicity, and look now: we’ve got a touch screen iPod.

The new iPod shuffle only came in a launch of different colours, as the style had been released somewhat beforehand. The shuffle remains to be the best mp3 player on the market if you are just looking for a simple music player to get you from A to B, and perfect for the little ones. The new nanos first recieved a lot of criticism following their launch on Apple’s website and TV ad featuring Feist’s 1,2,3,4. The criticism was due to their odd-shape compared to it’s predessessor - generation two. However it was not long until they were released in stores worldwide and they were recieved with great audience response, judging by the sales rates released from Apple. The iPod Nano G3 was found to be excessively slim and attractive and with the support of video only helped its marketing.  The newly named “iPod Classic” was also a big hit, promoting a new style and with Apple’s new CoverFlow. This feature, also supporting on all iPod models apart from the shuffle, allows the user to scroll through their album covers with their clickwheel, providing an easier and attractive way to get the song you want, and fast. They are sorted using artist’s name alphabetically, to save you remembering what the album was entitled. This feature was recieved with praise from users and is now an additional feature inside iTunes also.  The iPod touch uses your finger to browse through the albums, yet that’s not all. Featuring only two buttons, the power and home buttons, everything else is done by your finger. Locking the iPod, turning off the ipod, choosing music, searching web pages and more are all done with the flick of your finger. It also recognises pinches and flicks to help the experience even further. The first iPod to feature Wifi capability, it has gone off with a hit, especially with third party applications such as Apollo IM. If you are looking for a high tech mp4 player - look no further than the new, sleek iPod touch.  With releases such as these it is bound to raise the question of how far Apple will and can go. Five years ago we didn’t expect to have mp4 players at all, let alone one with finger capability. Let’s see how far our technology can evolve. All in all, this range of iPods was certainly a hit, especially to compliment Apple’s new Leopard OS. Now Australia, let’s wait for the iPhone.
